ABOUT

The Colour Blind Project has been created to showcase the diverse pool of multi-cultural talent that exists in Australia. It aims to be a world-class ensemble that challenges the stereotypes of what is perceived to be ‘Australian’ and bring the Australian Arts and Entertainment industry into the reality of the Australian society of the 21st Century. Through a collaborative environment, The Colour Blind Project unites artists of all backgrounds, particularly performers of multi-cultural backgrounds, and gives them the opportunity to create and perform work that will spark public dialogue about the cultural diversity within the Australian Arts and Entertainment industry.

The Colour Blind Project aims to nurture its talent and continue to create inclusive, innovative and provocative theatre for audiences across Australia.

AIMS OF THE COLOUR BLIND PROJECT

To challenge and break traditional casting practices by casting performers of multicultural backgrounds in roles they wouldn’t necessarily be cast in within today’s White-centric Arts and Entertainment industry.

To show a performer’s cultural background will enrich a production and

truthfully represent the contemporary Australian social landscape.

To encourage professional and emerging theatre practitioners and performers

to work together to create new and innovative work that challenges Australian

mainstream theatre.

To contribute to the Australian Arts Industry in a positive and dynamic way by

creating work of quality and substance.

ARTISTIC DIRECTORS

The Colour Blind Project is the brainchild of Sydney based performers, Josipa Draisma and Stephanie Son, who both wanted to create a dedicated, ambitious and talented ensemble of Australian writers, directors, actors and artists that would challenge and contribute to the cultural diversity of the Australian Arts and Entertainment landscape.

Josipa Draisma | Co Artistic Director

Josipa’s zeal for the art of storytelling is her prime driving force behind her career and commitment to the arts.

Josipa holds a Master and Bachelor of Creative Arts in Theatre and Performance. Since graduating with a distinction in 2004 Josipa has continued to train with respected tutors, directors and actors such as Kate Gaul, Sandra Lee Patterson, Natela Dzuliashvili and most recently with Anthony Wong in the Chubbuck Acting Technique.

An all round artist, Josipa has worked as an actor, singer, producer and production coordinator in many theatre plays, festivals, short films, television series and documentaries, some of which include: Women Power & Culture, NovemberISM, Boxed Carnation (Colour Blind Project), Shakespeare In Full Colour (Sydney Fringe/Colour Blind Project), Share Hell the Operetta(Slick Ops), In Other Words- Songs based on Kurt Weill & Bertolt Brecht, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, Seeking Stephen Sondheim, Straw People (Short & Sweet), Eva Broun x 4 (Short & Sweet),The Glory of God, , The Shadow Box, The Rover, The Unsheltered, Headlines, Bad Coffee, Play School (ABC), The Nest (SBS), The Missing Person’s Unit (Channel Nine) and Outback Wildlife Rescue (BBC).

Josipa is also a classically trained mezzo soprano and has performed as a singer in numerous ensembles, musicals and cabarets. Josipa relishes all genres and styles of music but is particularly fanatical with the edgy aesthetic and repertoire of Kurt Weill and Jacques Brel. She continues to explore this repertoire along with Weill and Brel’s contemporaries in her cabaret works and hopes to one day tour internationally with her interpretations of Weill and Brel. Josipa is currently working on a one woman cabaret show, which she is thrilled to be taking on the road in 2011. For more info on Josipa visit www.josipadraisma.com
